NORTH ISLAND, N.Z. Auckland, Coromandel Peninsula and Tongariro N.P. are requisite destinations. Coromandel sports some excellent sea kayaking and beach going activities, while Tongariro is a NZ mecca for serious hikers. I felt a spiritual tinge standing on the slopes of Ruapehu, gazing at Ngauruhoe (Mt. Doom!).
